Raptors Outriders 01

My first completed models from the Indomitus box – Outriders! I loved these models as soon as I saw them in the previews. There are so many cool things you could do with them, I could have kept going and going with the weathering etc, but sometimes you just gotta call a model done 😉

I used transfers from my Stencil and Post Apoc vehicle markings on the bases, and Imperial Gothic Details on the dashboard screens.

Hope you like them!

  1. Hi Luther, great looking models! I’m curious, what were the steps for the screens on the bikes? I’d like to have a go at something similar myself but the transition always ends up looking too stark, particularly with the white reflection.

    1. Hi Mitch,

I used Vallejo Game Air paints for these – I like them a lot for glazing.

Dark Green base (72.728), then layers of Escorpena Green (72.732) and Light Livery Green (72.733).

To smooth the blend I use the GW wash Biel Tan Green – couple of coats and then a bit more glazing with the Livery Green at the bottom, and finally the white reflection at the top with Model Color Ivory.

You can go back and forth with thin glazes of the paint and wash and get it very smooth.

  2. Hi Luther

I am wondering did you paint the marines and the bike seperatly as your guide to paint marines and vehicles is slightly different ?
If your did, was it difficult with the kit ? it seam like the legs is connected with part of the bike on the spue.

    1. Hi Michael,

I assembled the models completely before painting. Some parts were a little difficult to reach, but my general rule of thumb is that if I can’t reach it with my brush, you’re not gonna see it!

I painted them using the vehicle method (the main different being the airbrushing of the shading wash, and an oil wash used for panel lining).

  3. Hi Luther, your site has been such a great resource for me as a new painter. I’m also painting up my first minis (the Indomitus Elite box!) and got around to the outriders. What’s your recipe for the tires? Is it the same as the grav plates in your repulsor PDF?

    1. Hi John,
Thanks for the kind words! I believe the tyres were super simple – Vallejo Model Color Black Grey base coat, Nuln Oil wash and then AK Dark Mud oil wash.
      Hope that helps!
      Luther
