This guide is designed for beginner to intermediate level painters. The aim is to achieve a good quality paint job in a way that can be replicated relatively quickly across an army. Some of the later steps are optional, so the method can be ‘scaled’ from rank and file to more special models such as commanders and characters.

A certain level of experience and understanding is assumed of basic painting techniques such as basecoating, layering, using shading washes and edge highlighting, but more ‘advanced’ techniques such as freehand or NMM are avoided to ensure maximum accessibility.

If you have any doubts about these products, just buy one. They feature excellent photos, from multiple angles, of every step. About my only nitpick would be that two pages on highlighting and eye lenses separate step 8 from 9 and 10. These are both great additions, but prevent a smooth “flip build” of the steps. I found that zooming the image and scrolling through the guide really helped me visualize the steps. Keep them coming and thanks for your hard work putting these together.

These are very occlusive guides, helping with both materials and their application. Very easy to use.

First I was sceptical that a 4-pound PDF guide is really going to be good. I was wrong; it’s amazing. I recently got an airbrush and wanted to use the airbrush for my BT army. The PDF is amazing on this, we photo from all angles and a well-detailed explanation. After experiencing a guide as a PDF rather than a video, I think I even prefer the PDF style as a guide. Easier to look back compared to going through the video looking for the part you are looking for.

Hopefully, there will be more guides on Chaos, because I love my CSM, but I hate painting those trims. Hopefully, TMB has a better and more efficient way of doing this.
