Raptors Redemptor Dreadnoughts

It’s been a while since my last post but I’ve not been idle. In fact I’ve been quite busy and have a number of things nearing completion. These Redemptor Dreads have been sitting on my desk 90% complete for a couple of weeks now and I finally got around to finishing them today.

There is more I would like to do on them but the painting queue is long and time is short! So I’m calling them done.

    • Thanks Matt! For the metal I discovered the amazing Vallejo ‘Metal Color’ line. Super smooth paint. I used a couple of different colours – Exhaust Manifold, Copper and Dark Aluminium.

  1. Wow, these look amazing, I was thinking about using this scheme on some House Cadmus Knights, do you mind if I ask what yellow you used?

    • Thanks Alex! That’s a great idea – I think a Knight would looks awesome in this scheme! I did a quick mini tutorial on the yellow for the shoulder pads. If you go to the Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/themightybrush/) I’ve pinned the post. If you want to intensify the shadows you can use Reikland Fleshshade – it’s liquid gold for deep yellow!

  2. Hey Luther!
    Phenomenal work as always.

I was really interested in your comment above on the metalllics – you are using the “metal colour” range now?

Do you use this exclusively over the air range (which I love!) metallics – and if so what is the advantage? Also, do they go on well with a normal brush for details etc?

    Thanks as always!

    • Thanks Joe!

I would say that the Metal Color paints are better for airbrushing. They have extremely low viscosity and can be very smooth (the smoother the surface you apply them too – glossy even – the smoother the effect will be).

They can be used by brush but because of that low viscosity they are quite ‘runny’. I will still be using Model Air metallics for detailing infantry, like bolter barrels etc, because the slightly more viscose paint gives more control in that scenario.

But Metal Color for airbrushing all the way 🙂

  3. Thanks for clairifying my question about the metal colour! I’ve picked some up and will be trying it soon. After borrowing liberally from your BA methods last year (eternal gratitude for that) I’ll be embarking on my own Primaris project now! Following your path… only difference is – I remain loyal to Sanguinus 😉

Another question if I may! You always have such cool decals/transfers! Can I ask – in particular where do you get the “name” ones (vengeance from the shoulder for example) and the aquilas?

    Thanks again!

    • Thanks Joe, hope the Metal Color works out for you – they are amazing paints!

Those decals are from the old Forge World Imperial Guard sheet (now OOP, sadly). There was a Space Marine one too which I wish I’d bought before it went away.
